Meter Read - Digital

Digital Meter

Read the number on the display for each electricity tariff attached to the meter.
The most common digital or dual-rate meters the display will cycle through are:

  • 10 – Element 1 (Tariff 22 or 31 — light and power)
  • 20 – Element 2 (Tariff 41, 42, 61 or 62 if applicable — HydroHeat, hot water and/or Off-Peak)

To check which tariff each element refers to, please check the back of your bill.

Meter Read - Odometer

  • Read the dial on the left first. (Ignore the dial underneath).
  • Look at the two numbers the pointer is between and record the lowest number. (If the pointer is between 9 and 0, record 9.)

Direct Debit info modal

Direct debit gives you the control to get in front of your energy bills!

With direct debit, you have a couple of ways you can set it up.

  1. Pay in full on the due date. Relax, don't think about it and have the amount from your bill automatically taken out of your chosen bank account when it's due! (If you pay using a back account instead of a debit or credit card, we’ll apply a discount of 5c per day!)
  2. Make regular payments. Choose an amount to come out weekly, fortnightly or monthly and keep ahead. You can also choose to have what’s left of your bill paid on the due date!

Meter types explained

Meter types

Basic meter

Basic meters are an old type of meter which need to be physically read every 3 months. To calculate your energy usage we calculate the kWhs used between a “start read date” and an “end read date”.

Advanced meters

Advanced meters are a new generation of meter which record your usage data in 30 minute intervals and where mobile coverage allows sends this information to Aurora Energy on a daily basis. This means that with a product like aurora+ you can see exactly what you’ve used and when you’ve used it!
