Advanced meter roll out

Over 250,000 advanced meters have already been installed in Tassie homes and businesses.

Aurora Energy, alongside meter provider TasMetering, are now rolling out meters throughout the state. This is to support the Tasmanian Government's commitment to roll out advanced meters to all Tasmanians by the end of 2026.

Is your meter about to be upgraded?

If you've received notification that your meter will be upgraded as part of our statewide roll-out, you'll soon join thousands of homes and businesses enjoying the benefits of the next generation of electricity meters like:

  • Remote meter reads - say good bye to estimated reads and access issues.
  • More visibility of appliances or machinery - know exactly what you're using, and find efficiencies to help with your bottom line.
  • Access to digital account management - like aurora+ and aurora+ business.
  • Tailored solutions - to suit your home or business needs.

Prepare your home or business for your new advanced meter

Make sure everything goes smoothly on the day, there are a couple of things that you need to do.

  • 1.5 meter access - TasMetering need at least 1.5 meters of clear space around the meter and sub-boards to safely upgrade your meter (this means clearing away any obstacles like over-grown vegetation or building materials)
  • Unlock and secure - Make sure access is clear by unlocking gates, and securing any animals (no matter how friendly they are!) TasMetering need safe and clear access to where the meter, meter board, and sub-board are going to be installed. If you need need to meet someone on site, let us know!
  • Remember safety - Make sure you're up to date on what not to do when you have a power interruption

Please note: From the 1st June 2025, customers are no longer permitted to opt out of having an advanced meter installed. The National Energy Retail Rules (NERR) requires Aurora Energy and its appointed metering provider to replace the basic meter as per the national energy market rules.

This is a result of the Australian Energy Market Commissions (AEMC's) Accelerating Smart Meter Deployment rule change, and the jurisdictional target set by the Tasmanian Government to have all meters exchanged by 2026, all remaining customers are now required to move to an advanced meter.
