Support for Tasmanian Large Business 2023

We're pleased to share that the Tasmanian Government has announced a new grant program to support large businesses in Tasmania. The program, the Large Business Customer Electricity Support Scheme, is aimed at businesses affected by unexpected increases in unregulated contract power prices. The program offers eligible businesses a one-off payment of up to $20,000 to help with the cost of electricity. 

Eligibility of Business

To be eligible for the program, businesses must:

• Hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN).
• Have a business located in Tasmania and employ at least 80% of its staff in Tasmania (by Full Time Equivalent at the time of the application).
• Have executed a new fixed price electricity agreement in the period between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2023, with an annual contracted consumption greater than 150 Megawatt hours (MWh), in line with the criteria within the guidelines.
• Have a new fixed price agreement that has a higher weighted average price than the previous agreement.
• Have experienced, or are expected to experience, financial strain as a result of the increase in weighted average price in electricity and be able to demonstrate this financial strain.

How to Apply

To apply for the program, businesses must hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN), have a company located in Tasmania, employ at least 80% of their staff in Tasmania, and meet the eligibility criteria within the guidelines.

Applications for the program will open on 22 March 2023 at 3 pm and close on 31 July 2023 at 5 pm.

This grant program is part of the Tasmanian Government's commitment to supporting businesses affected by the volatility in the wholesale energy market. The program is designed to assist larger commercial and industrial companies forced to recontract at high prices and not covered within the proposed National Energy Bill Relief program.

In addition to the Large Business Customer Electricity Support Scheme, companies can access the $50 million Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme. The Government will support loans of up to $10,000 interest-free, with a further $50,000 available at low-interest rates.
