Level up on power

Mitchell lives in the historic Tassie town of Richmond with his parents and sister. He's a gamer, so he spends plenty of time in the winter months inside leveling up.

He's also 'leveled up' on his power saving with this great double-edged energy hack.

"We have a wood fire which can use less power than a conventional heater, the added bonus is that we also keep a kettle on top so that we have hot water whenever we need it, and we don't have to turn on the electric kettle if we want a cup of tea"

Up to 50% of power usage in Tassie homes comes from heating, so choosing energy efficient heater can make a big difference to your power costs. When it comes to wood heaters, modern slow-combustion wood-burning stoves are pretty efficient.

Appliances can account for up to 30% of household energy use, so only use them when needed and turn them off at the powerpoint when they're not.
