aurora+ and power outages

What happens when your meter can't be read?

Advanced meters are remotely read once per day, if at the time of the remote read your meter is unavailable, you may see 'substitute' data on your aurora+ usage graph. This substitute data is based off your previous usage, and the estimated cost of that substitute data will come off your aurora+ balance.

Don't worry! Once we're able to connect with your meter, your usage and balance will be updated to what you actually used. Note: This may take a few days to update in the app.

Substitute data may look a bit different than normal data. Usually the usage graph displays as hollow - see below:

Sub data

Reasons you might get 'substitute' data:

  • There was a power outage at the time your meter was due to be read.
  • There was a communications failure at the time your meter was due to be read.
  • Your meter was off at the time your meter was due to be read.

Daily supply charges

Daily supply charges, which are made up of a number of different network, retail, and market costs, are still charged during a power outage and when your meter is turned off. Find out more about these charges here.
