Variety Breakfast Club - Where No One Misses Out

Published on

Aurora’s partnership with Variety, which began in May 2024, has been a roaring success! According to research data, the Variety Breakfast Club has helped drive improvements in attendance, engagement and academic rates across 24 schools, since we began supporting.

Teachers have reported an 86 per cent increase in engagement and 52 per cent increase in attendance since the program started in 2022.

Gagebrook Primary Business Manager, Helen Bennett, said the Variety Breakfast Club ensures that no child misses out on eating a healthy breakfast each school day.

“We actually send toast and fruit out to all classrooms each morning, so that those kids who turn up late can still have breakfast,” Ms Bennett said.

“A hungry child will not learn anything.”

Variety Tasmania CEO, Mohammad Aldergham, said the latest survey data reinforces the importance of feeding children a nutritious breakfast to improve learning.

“A hungry student can easily disengage from learning, which is equivalent to a loss of two hours a day, or almost a full term of school,” Mr Aldergham said.

“It’s clear from our survey data that the Variety School Breakfast Club is helping Tassie kids engage with school and has led to an incredible 24 per cent improvement in academic outcomes.”

Our partnership with Variety, has enabled the charity to double it’s impact and expand it’s reach from 12 to 26 schools This has allowed over 7000 Tassie ids to access a nutritious breakfast, every school day. The breakfast clubs have also invited parents to join in, have a cup of tea and chat to teachers and students to create a sense of community.

Nigel is very proud of our partnership with Variety, and it’s positive impact on student learning, and struggling families.

“Aurora is thrilled that our partnership with Variety is giving students the energy they need to succeed at school,” Nigel said

“Every Tassie kid deserves the best start in life, no matter where they live, and this program is proving that a full tummy can make a huge difference in educational outcomes.”
