Who decides what you pay for power? What do you get for what you pay? And, how can you beat bill shock and get on top of your costs?
It might surprise you to know that because Aurora is a regulated energy retailer, we don’t set the price that standing offer residential and small business customers pay for their power.
That’s up to an independent body called the Tasmanian Economic Regulator. They decide on a fair and reasonable price for standing offer Aurora customers.
This year, the Tasmanian Economic Regulator has approved a decrease of 7.11% for residential customers and a decrease of 11% for small business customers.
Solar prices are also determined by the Tasmanian Economic Regulator. The 2021-22 regulated feed-in tariff (FiT) is 6.501c/kWh which is a decrease from the 2020-21 rate.
As with the drop in prices, this is also due to the significant decrease in the wholesale energy price for 2021-22.
Read more about how this rate is decided here.
Did you know you by using your own solar rather than selling it back to the grid you can save over 2 times as much as you get in feed-in credits? Find out how to make the most of your solar here.
A decrease of 7.11% for residential customers means on average those on a flat-rate plan will save $145 per year and those on Peak and Off-Peak will save about $126.
The drop of 11% for small business customers will see Flat Rate business customers save an average of $183 per year.
The decrease includes usage charges and daily supply charges.
Prices won’t change for another 12 months and you can rest assured you’re getting some of the lowest regulated power prices in Australia for the sixth consecutive year.
Now that you know how the price is set, you might like to know where the money you pay actually goes.
