Support available for winter energy bills

Customers in need of an extra hand to pay their winter energy bill are being encouraged to get in touch with Aurora Energy.

The impacts of COVID-19 coupled with the fact TasNetworks suspended all meter reading for two months as a precautionary measure, has led to higher than expected bills for some Tasmanians.

“For our customers who may be struggling to keep on top of their energy bill, we want to reassure them that we’re here to help,” Aurora CEO Rebecca Kardos said.

Aurora has a range of different payment options and support for Tasmanians in need of an extra hand, including a $5M assistance package aimed at helping customers who have been impacted by COVID-19.

The customer support fund provides an array of payment relief mechanisms, including freezing debt, waiving fees and charges, and helping customers to manage their ongoing consumption through subsidised payment plans.

Aurora’s industry-leading Your Energy Support (YES) program also remains ready to support residential customers who are having trouble paying their energy bill.

“We know many Tasmanians have spent more time at home this year than ever before due to the impacts of COVID-19,” Mrs Kardos said.

“We encourage any customer who may be finding it tough to keep on top of their energy bill and in need of support to visit the ‘high bill checklist’ page on our website or to contact us.

“We recognise that there are still challenging times ahead for homes and businesses in Tasmania and as a proud Tasmanian owned and operated company, we are committed to doing what we can to help, however long it takes.”
